Leif is a Structural Engineering Director and leads StructureCraft’s Seattle office to support projects across the United States. He is a licensed structural engineer with over 20 years of experience designing high-profile civic structures, museums, performing arts centers, and office buildings.
Leif gained undergrad and master’s degrees in Physics, Civil Engineering and Structural Engineering from Lawrence University in Wisconsin and Washington University in St. Louis. Shortly after graduation and before moving to Seattle, Leif won the 2004 Skidmore, Owings and Merrill Structural Engineering Traveling Fellowship, where he toured Europe to study structures inspired by natural forms for his thesis “Nature as Inspiration: Tools for Structural Art”. His passion for timber engineering was recently recognized when he was awarded one of the influential 40 under 40 professionals for Building, Design and Construction in 2018.
Leif manages all structural design decisions on his projects, and he is consistently focused on finding economical, elegant and sustainable solutions. He has played a key design role in many of StructureCraft’s recent projects across the US, including the Columbia River Maritime Museum in Oregon, the National Juneteenth Museum in Fort Worth, 619 Ponce City Market Office in Atlanta, and Sycamore & Oak in Washington DC.
