Leif is a passionate timber engineer with over 20 years of experience designing high-profile civic structures, museums, and performing arts centers across the United States. Recognized as one of Building Design + Construction’s 40 under 40 professionals in 2018, Leif combines consulting expertise and a deep appreciation for timber to lead StructureCraft’s Seattle office and expand the firm’s U.S. presence.

Growing up in Iowa City, Leif pursued his undergraduate degrees in Physics and Civil Engineering at Lawrence University and Washington University in St. Louis. He went on to earn a master’s degree in Structural Engineering at Washington University, where his thesis, “Nature as Inspiration: Tools for Structural Art,” was shaped by his exploration of natural forms during the prestigious Skidmore, Owings & Merrill Structural Engineering Traveling Fellowship.

Since joining StructureCraft, Leif has been instrumental in delivering some of the firm’s most impactful projects, including the National Juneteenth Museum in Fort Worth, TX, 619 Ponce in Atlanta, GA, and Sycamore & Oak in Washington, DC. His dedication to innovative timber design and leadership of StructureCraft’s Seattle office continues to push boundaries in mass timber engineering, reinforcing the firm’s role as a leader in the field.
