Matt Kantner, PE, SE, is a structural engineer and Associate Principal with EQUILIBRIUM where he leads the firm’s U.S. operations from their office in Atlanta. Matt has 13 years of structural engineering experience with a focus on mass timber projects (over 25 so far) since 2018.
Matt is a leading voice in the call for a more sustainable future through better design and construction, with mass timber playing a key role. He is a member of the SEI’s national Sustainability Committee and SE 2050 Committee. He has presented on the topics of embodied carbon and mass timber design at national conferences including GreenBuild and Structures Congress.
Matt is also interested in the technical aspects of designing in timber. He is a voting member of the American Wood Council’s Wood Design Standards Committee. He is also leading the charge on two active grant-funded R&D projects: one to develop a standardized tool for CLT design (find it at https://equilibrium-eq.com/design-resources/) and one to develop glulam-braced frames as a codified seismic force resisting system in the U.S.
