Road trip to the wonderful Willamette Valley, south of Portland, to see the mass timber buildings and manufacturing facilities making today’s news.


Blue Star Donuts (Portland’s gourmet favorite) and hot coffee/tea served before departure, courtesy of Henkel. Lunch provided.

NOTE: All tour attendees must ride on the provided buses—no riding to and from tour stops in separate vehicles is allowed. Attendees must wear long pants and sturdy, close-toed shoes such as hiking or work boots. Anyone wearing short pants, skirts, dresses, raised heels, tennis shoes, open toed shoes or other attire not appropriate for an active construction site or work area may be excluded from certain stops. Additional required protective equipment provided by conference organizers.


Site Visits

Huang Collaborative Innovation Complex (HCIC)

The Jen-Hsun Huang and Lori Mills Huang Collaborative Innovation Complex will be a dynamic home for team-based transdisciplinary research and teaching. The 143,000 square-foot building will be home to one of the nation’s most powerful supercomputers and advanced research and learning in artificial intelligence, robotics and materials science. The design team collaborated with Freres Engineered Wood and OSU’s testing labs to use locally sourced mass timber as much as possible as its primary structural members, fulfilling OSU’s sourcing and equity desires.

Timberlab's CLT Production Facility (Under Construction)

The final stop on this tour will be Timberlab’s new state-of-the-art 200,000 square-foot mass timber manufacturing industrial space in Millersburg, Oregon. The building is currently under construction. Participants will tour the expansive space, hear the building’s story, and have the opportunity to ask questions as the building gears up to kick off production later in the year.
