Bucholz McEvoy Architects
Merritt Bucholz co-founded Bucholz McEvoy Architects in 1996, further to an international competition win for a low-energy County Hall in Dublin, Ireland, in response to an ambitious sustainability brief. In the 29 years since, the practice has completed award winning civic projects, following a holistically sustainable design approach. Carefully crafted, site specific solutions optimize natural daylight & ventilation, aligned with biophilic principles, in an integrated low carbon architecture fine-tuned to the particular micro-climate. Mass timber is increasingly used to form the bones of the practice building designs, combined with responsive building skins to create healthy environments in collaboration with the natural & climatic systems in which they are set.
Merritt has given various guest lectures and workshops in Europe and USA outlining the practice’s expertise in the design of climate resilient, low carbon buildings incorporating mass timber such as the award winning Ballyogan Operations Centre and Samuel Beckett Civic Campus in Ireland, and has served on national and international design juries. The work of the practice has been exhibited in the USA, Germany, Italy, France, and at the Venice Biennale (2002, 2008 and 2018).
