Scott Barton-Smith
Associate Principal
Bora Architecture & Interiors
Scott is a registered architect in the state of Oregon with three decades of experience. He designed his first timber structure in 1997 and has served as architect, design lead, or mass timber expert on ten more. While at Hacker Architects, Scott was the Project Architect and Design Director on First Tech Federal Credit Union’s Oregon Corporate Office in Hillsboro, Oregon. It was Scott’s first CLT project and at the time was the nation’s largest CLT/Glulam building by area. Scott’s project experience is augmented with research in mass timber sustainability, acoustics, sourcing, connections, and housing.
Scott spent a year as a Preconstruction Manager for Timberlab, working directly with clients and design teams across the country to disseminate information on the use of mass timber as a more sustainable alternative while providing project-specific assistance to support appropriate and optimal design. Scott’s time at Timberlab augmented his design knowledge with first hand timber construction knowledge on subjects such as economics of mass timber, sourcing, transportation, manufacturing, fabrication, wood species, finishes, water protection, and installation.
Scott is now a senior project designer and mass timber specialist at Bora Architecture & Interiors, concentrating on mass timber in K-12 schools, libraries, and housing.
