Loren Smith drives sustainable development and innovation within Google’s data center organization, where he leads initiatives that deliver both capital savings and measurable sustainability advancements. His career bridges political science, civil engineering, and an MBA (Santa Clara University) with a concentration in finance, giving him a rare ability to connect technical, policy, and economic perspectives crucial for developing and scaling initiatives within Google’s Data Center organization. As Founder of the REC Exchange, Loren launched a groundbreaking platform to optimize the trading of Renewable Energy Credits, accelerating the transition to sustainable energy and advancing the decarbonization goals of the USGBC. At Google, he continues to champion strategies that push the boundaries of carbon reduction, resilient infrastructure, and material reuse.
Loren is also deeply engaged in his community as a Palo Alto Cubberley Fellow and through service on the Utilities Advisory Commission and Citizens Advisory Committee, where he advocates for renewable energy and smart community infrastructure.
