Southeast Metro Showcase
Portland's southeast metro areaSingle family, fabrication, and community gathering space — this tour packs a lot of mass timber into one educational, fun day, including a beautiful drive into the mountains outside Portland.
Blue Star Donuts (Portland’s gourmet favorite) and hot coffee/tea served before departure, courtesy of Henkel. Lunch provided.
NOTE: All tour attendees must ride on the provided buses—no riding to and from tour stops in separate vehicles is allowed. Site Visits
Molalla Mass Timber: Single Family + Shop
A not-so-common look into a large single family home and even bigger workshop, both made from CLT and glulam. Hear about the building and construction process and lessons learned on these two structures, as you tour the finished projects with the homeowners themselves. Take a moment to enjoy the view from the back yard while you’re at it, where you just might spot some resident deer, elk, or mountain lion.

Sauter Timber
We’re visiting Sauter Timber’s gorgeous, new 70,000 sq ft mass-timber-built fabrication facility again in 2026, but this is more of a do-over than repeat. Sauter Timber hit unexpected delays in getting their facility operational for our 2025 tours. But we won’t have that issue in March.
Attendees will get to see Sauter’s Hundegger 5-axis CNC machine — currently only one-of-five in the world — in action. Sauter Timber is the first in North America to offer the ability of prefabrication of all six panel sides in one process. Participants will also see firsthand the process for reusing woodchips for energy.
Sauter’s facility produces mass timber components such as cross-laminated timber (CLT) and glue-laminated timber (glulam) beams.
East County Library
We couldn’t resist. This building is so big and so grand, that we just had to return for another look. But there will be one big difference from last time. Attendees will tour the fully completed building right before the doors open to the public.
East County library is a new 95,000 sf library in Gresham, Oregon, that will become a new civic hub for the area. East County Library features an auditorium, makerspace, kids and teen spaces, AV studio, and much more to the residents of Gresham and the greater Portland metro area. The library is set to be completed December of 2025, but is expected to not open to the public until May 2026.
